OUR

PROJECTS

KDI has implemented several State, Regional, and National Projects with great success stories, which has provided an avenue for KDI to demonstrate its prowess and expertise as an organization in the area of data-driven policy advocacies and technical analysis.

Elections Projects

KDI’s Campaign Finance Monitoring initiative is implemented through the PoliMoney framework to tracks and analyses political campaign expenditure to promote transparency, accountability, and compliance with regulatory thresholds. Using a structured methodology that combines field observation, media tracking, and expenditure estimation models, the project generates data on how financial resources influence political competition.

The objective is not to audit campaign finances but to provide a transparent overview of spending patterns and their implications for electoral fairness. By highlighting disparities in resource deployment and potential breaches of legal limits, the project supports regulatory bodies, civil society, and the public in understanding the role of money in elections. This contributes to broader efforts to strengthen democratic accountability and reduce undue financial influence in the electoral process.

The Judicial Communication Framework is an institutional reform initiative aimed at strengthening how the judiciary communicates during election adjudication processes, particularly in the context of election petition tribunals. Recognizing the increasing public interest in electoral justice and the risks associated with misinformation and misinterpretation of judicial proceedings, the framework seeks to establish structured, ethical, and context-sensitive communication protocols.

The initiative supports the judiciary in balancing transparency with judicial independence by improving clarity, consistency, and accessibility of information related to electoral cases. It also addresses challenges such as speculative reporting, public misperception, and reputational risks to judicial institutions. By enhancing communication practices, the framework contributes to strengthening public trust in the electoral justice system.

The NEVER project is a citizen-led election security initiative designed to prevent and mitigate electoral violence through early warning, real-time monitoring, and stakeholder engagement. It combines community-based data collection with structured analysis to track incidents of violence, identify emerging risks, and support coordinated responses.

At its core, NEVER functions as an Early Warning System, integrating inputs from trained monitors, community networks, and institutional stakeholders. The project does not only document incidents but also facilitates proactive engagement through State Peace Mediation Mechanisms and security coordination platforms. By shifting the focus from reactive response to anticipatory mitigation, NEVER strengthens the electoral security architecture and contributes to safer, more inclusive elections.
